Thank you everyone with their offers for the DMC thread that I needed. When I arrived exhausted, sore and sorry, yesterday in Wollongong, I was delighted to find a parcel containing my required thread and then some from Lace Inspirations in Victoria. I know that hint came from Johannesburg, but my exhausted brain can't remember the person's name who suggested them. Thank you all, now with all my sewing in boxes I should be able to get a bit of lacemaking done while we are homeless and awaiting the building of a very small cottage - I have no idea where we will put everything.
As for the fireplace glass, I tried all the methods for cleaning and in the end Gumption with a steel wool pad and lots of elbow grease got most of the job, then I finished with oven cleaner and more scrubbing. And after all that, our sale didn't close on Friday as the purchasers' solicitor didn't get the money there on time, so we could have had the weekend, who knew. I have a circle of zigzagged metal that goes on my head like a headband, but holds firmer and it has "pints or points", and the label on it when I bought it called it an Alice band. Thanks for all your helpful suggestions to my queries of late, and now off to bed for a good night's sleep, if only the body will stop aching.
