Did the click, saw the R.E.Lee impersonation, and couldn't stop smiling...

A few years back, one of the Theatre Dept guys at W&L "suckered" Severn (my DH) into playing "a rebel general" in a play he was directing (a truly *bad* play; a piece of propaganda written by a Northerner, and offensive to the South, IMO. But, authentic -- written *then*). On the director's advice, Severn grew "facial hair" *just* as Lee's is in all the portraits. Outfitted in a general's uniform, he was a "dead ringer" for Lee... :) To strengthen the impact, the director used *enormous* slides of photos/paintings of Lee as "backdrop", every time Severn was on stage... After each performance, the students would come up to congratulate DH on his acting, and would address him as "General, Professor, SIR"

How time flies... When we first married, 30 yrs ago (almost), people (outside Lexington) would accost him (restaurants, street) and ask if he was related to Robert Redford <g>
