I moved to Glasgow last year from South Africa, where I found that English as a whole new language is spoken! For example How? means Why?
When my stepdaughter's son was about 6, he went through a phase when he never asked "why?"; it was always: "how come?"... They live in Colorado, but I wonder if there's not some connection.
