Household ammonia will stop the itch. We lived at the beach (barrier islands where mosquitos thrive!) for about 25 summers and I kept a little squeeze bottle of household ammonia at hand all the time. If I recall, household ammonia is Ammonium Hydroxide (NH4OH) or ammonium water.
