Here is a message passed on to me by my husband, who is a keen amateur astronomer, and subscribed to several interest groups:- http://science.nasa.gov/spaceweather/swpod2003/18aug03a/dmsp.gif Walter Willis Life without chocolate is too terrible to contemplate! While I do appreciate and deplore the fact that the American power cuts caused many serious problems, I'm right behind the people who want to reduce light pollution. This is largely because I don't like the damage light pollution causes to our wildlife and environment, as well as its effects on people. For the last twenty years and more we've lived with a factory on our doorstep that kept on bright security lights all night, every night. Although I learned to sleep despite that, since the factory moved away a few months ago the difference has been quite remarkable. Best wishes, Linda Walton, in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, U.K., (who couldn't care less if she never, ever had to go out and look at another star!).
