Hi everyone I have to disagree, respectfully, that national and international news coverage hasn't 'covered' the terrible fire situation here in BC - it is adequately covered and we aren't ignored by eastern Canada. BC radio has frequent updates for those who need more detail.
My server has set up a message board for local people to use, to those outside the area to contact relatives, or post news - here is a msg. posted last night (the city refers to Kelowna): "All of you should know, no one was killed and the emergency crews have done a great job. The whole city is not burning down but many areas are in danger if the winds come again. The great danger is, live embers could well rain down on the city. Ash has been falling here in (a borough) for days, and we live up against a very dry rural mountain setting. People are helping one another right down to helping look after people, pets and livestock. Thanks for your prayers, the people in this city can use them all. It is comforting to know that some folks have been allowed to return home under a watch order, if the wind comes back, they will be ordered out again. There are thousands who are not so lucky in the south end of the city." What I find especially eerie is the discrimination of the fire - it will burn an area, let's say with houses, and one house will be untouched...in another area, the opposite - one house has burned, and others nearby are only a bit scorched. bye for now Bev in Sooke BC (on Vancouver Island, west coast of Canada) -- bye for now Bev in Sooke, BC (west coast of Canada) Cdn. floral bobbins http://www.victoria.tc.ca/~wt912 To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
