Actually, we usually assume 2.5 hours for a Birmingham to London trip -
but that is taking into account that London for Brummies starts at the
end of the M40 - I think it is measured something like 112 miles - and
doesn't account for anyone trying to get to the other side!  Tamworth to
London (straight down the A5) we do in about 3 hours, but it is usually
far simpler, and quicker, to get the train!

On one memorable occasion about 25 years ago (memorable for the whatsit
of a migraine I went down with mid party!), a friend dragged me off to
his sister's party (giving me about ten minutes notice that we were
going, and I would need overnight stuff) - he picked me up from my flat
in Moseley, on the south side of Birmingham, and we were in Ealing *one
hour and five minutes* later!  Needless to say, he was well and truly
breaking the speed limit, and this was outside rush hour.
