Hi everyone I rather like 'collectibies' - thank you Margot. They are what I have, in quantity, amongst my Stuff.
Other correspondents wrote: "> corners refer to themselves after the hooded fleece tops they wear. Are you sure? It's been my understanding that the ethymology of this one comes from 'hood -- as in neighbourhood..." and I would like to add: a 'hood' is a word from my youth, meant a thug, or street rowdy, from 'hoodlum' - derived from Germanic/Bavarian slang (Gage reference) "Hodalum" Here a 'hoodie' is a fleece shirt with a hood attached - my now-ancient kids refer to the young wearers as 'punklings.' I have a paperback called The Story of the English Language. It is out of date ;_ -- bye for now Bev, pleased with the word "collectibies" in Sooke, BC (west coast of Canada) To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
