'Hoodies' was described on the radio programme I was listening to as named after the fleece tops. I collared a couple of youngsters this morning while out with the dog, and they confirmed that, here at least, they call themselves 'hoodies' because of these hooded tops to distinguish themselves from those who don't dress like that. Rather like the 'mods' and 'rockers' we had in the 60s. The kids I spoke to said they don't have a word to describe the non-hooded wearers, but that they wouldn't hang around with them.
