My Mum used to make apple dolls..they were quite remarkable. During the process of shaping them you never knew exactly how the face was going to turn out, there was some real characters.:) I should think that the reason a lot of people haven't heard of them is because, unless you live in a very dry climate, they just don't last :( Mum had had hers for years until we moved to the West Coast.
