For a few years, I had one from Stratford, England (brought back by a
daughter), stapled to our low-quality basement door - the one with
the cat-hole in it....

Some newbies may not be aware that linen tea towels that are
too special to use for drying dishes, make great cover cloths.
They are also good conversation starters when demonstrating
or at lace workshops or lace days.
I'm not a part of the Secret Pal exchange (don't start me on why not
<g>), and I don't -- usually -- read the "thank you" notes. But, on
the subject *tea towels*, I do have something to say :) A couple of
years ago, I got one -- from a New Zealand e-friend -- which was
"much to the purpose"... All about TEA (also spelled "T" <g>)... I
considered using it as a cover cloth, but it was a wrong size/shape.
So, I used it as "tapestry" -- hung it on the wall where I could see
it whenever I needed to take a visual break from my pillow... For
the past few months, it's been carefully folded and stored -- the
spot had been taken over by a NY Times "ad" (about the same size as
the tea-towel) showing George Bush's photo against the MISLEADER
text... But I'm getting tired of *that* (we all know he's a liar,
and looking at his face brings no pleasure), so the tea towel will
go back and replace it soon.
DH has a tea towel (from Australia?) which is all about *his*
interest -- literature (Shakespeare is what I can remember, but
there's more to it)...That is also used as a "tapestry", though a
free-hanging one, in his study. Real tapestries have never been in
our (your general "Jane Schmoe") reach, but immitations still give
warmth...
