I am just getting around to checking my email. As far as a blunt sewing needle, when I went to Canada in September 2002 (actually on Sept 11), I couldn't take a needle on board. However, I asked nicely, and the flight attendant lent me her "emergency" sewing kit, which they all carried. All that was required was that I return it to her at the end of the flight. Go figure!
