I said before that I didn't want to get political, but Nicky's raised it. Apart from being "European" (Blair's finally decided we'll have a referendum on the European Constitution - should jolly well think so seeing as the nearest we've got to a constitution is Magna Carta), there's also the "multi-racial" aspect. Flying the English flag is seen by the powers that be as being nationalistic and racist by rejecting the diversity of races, colours and religious beliefs there are in this country. I don't think the majority of English see it that way, just that we're pround to be English, the same as everyone (well almost everyone) is proud of their background, and it doesn't mean we can't live in an integrated society.
