Took me a while to find the shirt which I thought was similiar (didn't want to have to eat any of my hats, if I was wrong <g>). The shirt is sleevless and pretty much shapeless (but, oh, so comfortable in the summer); made of very coarse cotton. It has a triangular insert (about 6"x6"x8") of needle lace ("needle lace"?), very pretty and sturdy. I bought the shirt in Poland, in '99, for about $1.50, and the shops all over Warsaw were deludged with them, at about the same price. None had any attribution as to the source of origin, though most were being sold in shops which carried a lot of stuff made in India.
It's the same thing. The motifs themselves are different (mine has a tulip-like flower, an un-identified flowery shape and a couple of star-like flowers instead of roses), but everything else is the same. The stitches are the same (with the same variety-range). The *distribution* of the stitches is the same (half of a petal "solid", half "open" in most). The stems are the same. Even the brides are the same, down to the sloppy joins in the middle of some of them...
I'd have dearly loved to have seen a close-up of the *back* of the rose motif in that tablecloth... I don't make needle lace myself so can't be certain-sure, but... In NL doesn't one lay out and couch (or whatever) the outlines and then attach the fillings in between those outlines? My piece, on close inspection, looks like the flowers had been machine-knitted first, and all the buttonholing (petal division, outer and inner edges of the flowers) was done afterwards, on top. *If* it is butonholing, and not some fancy machine overlock... :)
