If the list flunks the challenge, log into rec.arts.sf.written and post your
query with the subject line "YASID: grandfather-clock play". ("YASID:",
all in caps, is how r.a.sf.w. tags requests to identify a story.) Put
enough detail into the subject line that people who have read the story will
download the thread. (r.a.sf.w. is a very busy newsgroup and nobody reads
all the posts.)
In the body of the message, include every detail you can remember, however
irrelevant it may seem. (For example, was it a new play when you read it,
or had it been around for a while? Part of a collection or published
separately? A play booklet, paperback, hardback? Cover picture? Library
book, found in a used-book shop, gift from a friend, text from a literature
course?) There is no telling what will evoke a thirty-year-old memory.
Some of the denizens of r.a.sf.w. would adore a play with clocks as
characters; I'm sure at least one of them has read it.
