I spent a summer in Israel (mostly Haifa) a few years ago, and there was a big bomb scare - it was an organized scientific workshop sort of thing, and for the last week they didn't let us off campus at all! I got the habit of crossing the street whenever I see anything without an obvious owner. Nonetheless, Israel is definitely the most beautiful and interesting country I've ever been to - I hope I can visit it again at some point.
