Cotton and linen last a good deal better than silk. Silk over time can simply shred to nothing; synthetics turn crisp and ugly (take a look in a second-hand store at the old bridal or prom gowns!). If you use linen, be careful not to iron creases (such as the fold in a sleeve), or the fibers may break where they are folded and pressed so tightly.
