Gods, how we wish we had some rain in British Columbia :) The rest of Canada
has had a lousy, cold, wet summer, but we've been frying :( The temp has
hardly dropped below 30C for weeks. The forest fires are raging all over.
Last week we had a bit of an alarm because a fire started up just 4 miles from
our village. They called in the Martin Mars water bombers. That was amusing
for the first day. They are huge, old, amphibious troop carriers that have
been converted. They make a Hercules troop carrier look like an ultra-lite.
Anyway, they are large, slow, and noisy. But, they pick up 7200 tonnes of
water at each pass, nothing else comes close to that quantity. Unfortunately,
our house was directly under the flight path ..and they were flying low..every
13 minutes :( Like I said, it was amusing the first day..but after three
days? All summer the weather forecasters have promised us some rain, but they
lie. Winter can't come soon enough for me :) Sharon .. on hot, parched,
