How do you know? When I download my mail, the first thing I do is open up the screen so that only the *list* of addresses (both sender and sendee), subject lines, date and size of the message show up. Clicking on those doesn't open the message, just highlights it for easy delete (don't know you, you don't seem to know me - either by name or interest - so, don't bother me). That's a habit I acquired when I was still on a Windows-driven PC, and I still do a preliminary scan of all the private messages (no junk-mail comes in through lace or chat). Even though I'm now on Mac (fewer viruses, and a junk filter) *and* have a virus/spam filter (Postini) courtesy ($1 per month) of my ISP.
In the old days, once I got my Mac and was less frightened of viruses, I'd sometimes open some of the spam messages. The brides "for sale", from Russia, were often quite pretty (as the potenital bridegrooms, from US, were not <g>), and I was amused by the offers of *increasing* my penis by 3 inches (who'd be interested in a 3" penis? And, can you increase something that isn't there?)
But I must say that, recently - last 2-3 weeks - my spam seems to have dropped down precipitously (knocking on wood). I only get 3-7 spam messages a day (they're held for me, by Postini, on a website, so I don't have to download them at all), and they're all boring; judging by the subject lines, they're either on mortgage rates, or else are sent by people who're even more confused than I am (a string of signs and symbols which make no sense at all).
Mac's Junk has got so bored with inactivity, it's been quarantining perfectly legitimate messages. I expect Postini to join the club any moment... :)
