It's about time people were told just how companies make money. I knew 0870 numbers were charged at national rate, but not that companies take a cut. Underhanded. Why don't companies that use these numbers state what's happening? Because they know people don't like being ripped off. Now I know why freephone number menus are a lot shorter than 0870 ones. <I never use the IVR menu whenever I call my bank, or whatever, as I can't be doing with all that nonsense either. That's why I try and do everything online, no hanging about and as long as BT is playing ball, it's so much quicker.> That's OK provided that the company isn't advertising a discount in the press, and when you try on-line ordering quotes the full price and that any discount will be deducted from your invoice which will be sent with the goods. Sorry, but I don't believe them. I don't give my credit card details unless I'm certain, from an on-screen invoice, what I'll be paying. When that happens, the alternative's are usually email, snail mail or 0870, I send a cheque by snail mail.
