If so, waiting till one's old, sort of defies the purpose, no? Given that women are much more willing to forgive the wrinkles below the hat than men are?
I think you're going much too deep in philosophy for the Red Hat Club. It's a take-off from the poem, quoted earlier. And done in a light hearted mode. It shows you're not afraid to admit you're 50 or more. The red and purple is a bit absurd, to start with, and people just have fun with the whole idea.
