Now I'm merely disgruntled that the admirers of the poem have made a trademark of red hats. (I never did like purple as a dress color.) But it does make life awkward for any old women who happen to look good in purple and aren't interested in the club.

Oh, no. Wear your purple. Just don't put red accessories with it. I've seen some lovely purple outfits. I'd wear one myself, if I had one -- but my current wardrobe doesn't happen in include one. I do have a red hat, a nice leather one, and I wear it as the whim takes me -- same as the aqua hat or the burgundy one. Just depends on what I'm wearing that day.
