Very well put!! We understand that!!!

I've been reading the thread on American football with some amusement...

The similiarity to rugby was evident to me the first time I watched a game, but so was the fact I couldn't make a head or tail of it anyway. So I did what I used to do during my "English summer" (1968) -- got blind drunk. And, yes, it did improve my understanding of the rules to the same extent (I've been known to speak fluent German when blind drunk, too). Unfortunately, the morning after, I *still* didn't understand the rules, and had a bilinding headache to cope with besides... :)

I was really happy when my understanding of English and American English reached the point where I didn't feel I *had to* watch TV to improve it, and reverted to print for my "window onto the native world"...
