As a Physics student, I have always written all of my reports in the
passive voice (and ignored the grammar checks that tell me that tell
me off for doing so :o) ) However, recently, schools have been
encouraged to get down if certain sections are in the passive
voice. I find it very hard to change though - I wrote around 250-300
pages of reports in the passive voice before starting uni but have
only written around 50 here. To me, using the passive is normal and
I rarely notice it.
