I DO think the decision to enter Iraq for world peace and democracy was correct, and remember, all the soldiers there are volunteers.

Not fair; you've had your say twice, and most of us not at all... :)

Yes, the soldiers in this war are volunteers (at least the American ones are; Polish ones are not). And we have betrayed them twice: once by sending them into this misbegotten and unjust war on the basis of a pack of lies form the "head". We betrayed them for the second time, when we started trimming veteran benefits (pensions and health) once they come home maimed in body and soul. And we've done the same for their widows, when they come back dead.

That's not even allowing for the Home Guard, which, instead of being in place to help, _at home_, during the Katrina disaster, was out there, ill-trained and worse-equipped.

As for "world peace and democracy" and "freedom" (from your original message)... not only do those words not belong on the same page with "invasion of Iraq"; they're from two different dictionaries...

There had been no WMDs in Iraq (which the White House *knew*, whatever they chose to tell the hoi-polloi, United Nations and the Congress). There had been no members of AlQuaeda and no other terrorists; the ruling terrorist (Saddam) took care of *that*. OTOH, according to reports, the daily number of dead Iraqis (not counting the self-blowers, but counting all their -- and our -- victims, including civilians), in the inferno we had started, is now matching that of the daily dead during his rule.... So much for "freedom" and "peace" we brought to Iraq.

"Democracy"... We seem to be taking the "I'll teach you democracy, if I have to kill every last one of you" approach to the "exercise" in Iraq. And, when they show what they'd "learnt", we don't like it; just the other day Clueless George was drumming his feet in a temper tantrum about whom they elected as their prime minister.

So, the correct answer to Cindy Sheehan's "why?" is: "because of the hubris and the criminal negligence of those in charge at the White House: the Clueless George, his puppet-master the Man (Cheney), and the Thug (Rumsfeld)".

In Virginia, when you cause a car accident, you don't have to be drunk to be charged with negligence; it's enough that you fell asleep or even lost concentration for a moment and lost control of your vehicle. Why should lower standards of accountability apply to the rulers of the whole country?

Yours, waiting for the midnight knock on the door -- just like in the good, old commie Poland -- now that the Big Brother is watching not just "them", but "us" as well...
