On holiday, about 20 years ago, in the Yorkshire Dales, which is about
as near to the middle of nowhere that you can get in England. DH and I
went into the only pub/restaurant for miles around and sat at the only
vacant table, placed an order etc. Whilst we were waiting for our
meals to arrive we'd commented to ourselves on the meals served to the
table behind me; enormous Yorkshire puddings with everything else
inside. Our meals duly arrived, then between courses Terry, being a
gentleman asked me if I'd like another drink and when I said yes he
said "go and get it then!" Well I did go to the bar and as I walked
back with the drinks who should I see sitting at the table behind us -
Pat Read (now MBE) and her daughter Jane! Pat also lives in Kent,
about 25 miles from me but we were 250 miles from home.

I was in the Student Union bar last night with a group of fairly
random people (I knew most of them, but didn't realise that they also
knew each other). Anyway, as is fairly normal, the conversation
started with sports and sporting injuries, eventually, we got on to
talking about volunteering and the Duke of Edinburgh Award at which
point one of the (male!) hockey players made some comment about having
used lacemaking for the Skills section of the Award! We both had to
admit to not having touched a pillow in months because of other
commitments. Anyway, there you go, my most random lacemaking moment.
I'm not sure I'll ever beat it, but I can work at that one!
