Ok Janice here's the quick answer

You are required to think of a 2 digit number, which can be expressed algebraically as 10x+y, where x represents the number in the 10s column and y the number in the units column.

If you add the two digits together you get x+y

Subtract (x+y) from (10x + Y) and you get 9x (ie a multiple of 9).

When you look at the symbols all the multiples of 9 are the same symbol. Each time you play the game the order of the symbols changes to make you think its something clever and complicated, but really whatever number you select, simply leads you to an answer which is a multiple of 9

Subject: [lace-chat] number - try it

A friend sent me this and wants to know how it works every time. I am sure we have had similar ones before so maybe one of our wizards can explain it to me so I can pass it on.
 Janice

   This is amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact, I know the correct number but will stare at another one trying to confuse the "game wizard", and the correct answer still appears.
Sometimes I feel SO blond. I'm baffled.
 Enjoy,
 Cheryl
