Gentle Spiders, (and others)
On Oct 8, from one of my staunch Republican corrspondents, I received a
piece of e-mail, with the subject line: "information". We trade jokes,
so I accepted the message, even though it bor no indictor :) that it
*was a joke. Here's what I found, and I think it was sent in all
seriousness:

Many will recall that on July 8, 1947, witnesses claim an unidentified
object with five aliens aboard crashed on a sheep and cattle ranch
just outside Roswell, New Mexico.
This is a well known incident that many say has long been covered up
by the US Air Force and the federal government. However, you may NOT
know that in the month of March 1948, exactly nine months after that
historic day, Albert Arnold Gore, Jr.; Hillary Rodham; John F. Kerry;
William Jefferson Clinton; Howard Dean;
Nancy Pelosi; Dianne Feinstein; Charles E. Schumer; and Barbara Boxer
were born.
I do follow the current political scene in the US, but, since I pay
scant attention to the biographical details, I had no idea whether any
of the above was true. But...
All the people named above and credited with presumed alien genes are
not only Democrats but also favourite hate-objects of the Bush/Cheney
Theofascist Brigade. It seemed a bit weird that all of them should
have been born during the same year and month, however much the
wing-nuts on the right might like (and believe) the idea. So I decided
to do a bit of simple checking up...
I did not go into the subject of whether or not the aliens *did* land
"just outside of Rosewell, New Mexico" on July 8, 1947 (or at any other
time). And, since, in my childhood and teens I used to be an ardent fan
of Greek mythology and science fiction, I didn't even question the
possibility of aliens and humans cross-breeding. My *only* quibble was
to do with the weird concatenation of birthdates...
Of the 9 people targeted for the smear, only one -- Al Gore (the
Presidential candidate in 2000, who won by popular vote and lost by the
Supreme Court decision) -- was born in March of 1948 (31.III.'48). The
rest are as follows:
Hillary Rodham-Clinton -- 26 October, 1947
John F. Kerry -- 11 December, 1943
Bill (William Jefferson) Clinton -- August 19, 1946
Howard Dean -- November 17, 1948
Nancy Pelosi -- March 26, 1940
Dianne Feinstein -- June 22, 1933
Charles Schumer -- November 23, 1950
Barbara Boxer -- November 11, 1940
In other words, all over the calendar, both month and year wise...
Of course, facts never deterred the Republigoons; truth is supposed to
have a liberal bias and is therefore rejected out of hand. I expect the
"joke" will circulate happily around the moronic (and, unfortunately,
*voting*) Rethuglican "base", beginning with the Faux News TV (also
known as Fox News) and going on through other corporate (just look in
whose pocket they sit) mega-media. And enough of the base (isn't it
"funny" that, in Arabic, "base" translates to "jihad"?) will be stupid
enough to swallow it *all* -- hook, line and sinker. Should Hillary
Clinton try running for President in '08 (not my personal choice, BTW),
she'll be branded as an alien spawn by the Moronic Majority... And the
Dems won't -- in all probability -- even try to deny it; they won't be
able to imagine anyone would be stupid enough to believe it (Mencken
*rocks* <g>).
I guess they just can't help themselves... they lie sooner than
breathe, and when they lie it's always a slimy lie, aimed at the lowest
common denominator. "From the head does the fish begin to stink" we say
in Polish. And our current "head" is plenty dim-witted...
The above-quoted slur came with the following "appendix":
This coming week is National Mental Health Care week. You can do your
part by remembering to contact at least one unstable person to show
you care.
So now I have to choose *one*, "possibly redeemable" Republican't of
all my acquaintance... As if I didn't have enough hardship in my life,
now I'm charged with an impossibility... :)
