As many of you know, I work for the Pike Place Market and many of our farmers have been hit horribly by the rains we have had here. Many of them <and sadly the ones worst hit> are refugee farmers from China. Many of them struggle to make ends meet to begin with and are not sure how they are going to survive and feed their families. It is times like these that we all need to pitch in and help each other out. Here is the press release that is going out about this and how you can help if you wish.
Thank you in advance, Shere'e [image: Picture (Metafile)] ** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 15, 2006 CONTACT: Scott Davies, 774-5257 or [EMAIL PROTECTED]<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ** ***Farmer Relief Fund Helps Victims of Recent Floods**** * *Donations can be made to the Market Foundation at Pike Place Market * SEATTLE November's floods of Western Washington rivers are levying a heavy toll on Pike Place Market farmers. Current estimates are that 40 of the Market's 90 farmers have suffered heavy losses of equipment, greenhouses, coolers, seeds and bulbs. Many of the farms were located in the Snoqualmie Valley from outside Woodinville to Duvall and Carnation. Other farms were located in the Auburn-Kent-Enumclaw area. It's estimated that damages just to business operations and capital will exceed $500,000. Hundreds of thousands of flower bulbs have been lost to the waters. Some, like dahlias, have taken many years to cultivate. Next summer's flower availability may be greatly affected, which will in turn affect many immigrant farmers' livelihoods. How can people help? At present, the best way to help is to donate to the Market Foundation's Farmer Relief Fund. Checks payable to the Market Foundation may be sent to the Market Foundation at 85 Pike Street, Room 500, Seattle, WA 98101, Attention: Farmer Relief Fund. Donations may be made online at *www.pikeplacemarket.org*<http://www.pikeplacemarket.org/>. >From the homepage, click "Community Resources" and then "Market Foundation." A donation form may be completed there. Mark "Farmer Relief Fund" in the notes section, please. ### [demime 1.01d removed an attachment of type image/bmp which had a name of ole0.bmp] To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
