Hi All,

Reading the posts re. Christmas wares being in the stores too early....

I went into one of the super-markets on the Saturday just prior to Christmas
looking for something quick and easy for the grandchildren - aged seven and
five - to do that afternoon, which would keep them occupied whilst presents
were wrapped, and last-minute chores were attended to. I bought a packet
of the 'Pinflair' stuff. That should be quite easy, I thought! How
wrong can one be. The kit consisted of four tiny polystyrene bells, with
packets of tiny 'dill' pins, a packet a tiny beads, and a packet of sequins,
along with four large hatpin type pins, bits of ribbon, and some other bits
and pieces.

I sat the children down, and showed them what was required! They tried
hard, but the pins were too tiny for small hands to pick up, and the bells
were a not-very-convenient shape for small people to stick the pins plus
sequins in (we gave up putting the seed beads on the pin, then the sequin
... it was far too fiddly). The children were very soon continuing with
their tape-lace dolphins, and I was the one who spent the whole afternoon
making the one bell. Yes - just the one!!! It looked lovely on the
Christmas tree, but I certainly feel it wasn't quite what I had
anticipated - but maybe I won't leave it till two days before Christmas to
make the other three - do you think I should be doing it right now, in
plenty of time for Christmas 2007?

So - maybe I have changed my opinion - I think we should have plenty of time
to actually buy and complete whatever we want to make for Christmas.
But - I have a question now - when do you all think I should start on the
special something (what it is is yet to be decided - any suggestions will be
welcomed!) for my son's mother-in-law for her 60th birthday in March?

Take care - I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas, and will have a
healthy and happy, peaceful and prosperous 2007, with lots of lacemaking,
and unbending pins.
