We're not on a water meter. The amount we pay is based on the council tax band our bungalow is in, which is based on the selling value of the property in about 1990. I can't remember exactly when, but I know we were living in Somerset in a remote bungalow at the time and my husband called the police to deal with two men acting suspiciously and 'casing' our bungalow from the road. They were doing the valuation for council tax. :-)

Our bill for the coming year 1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008 totals GBP 462.23 made up of:

water supply charge 228.94
water standing charge 7.00
sewerage service charge 219.29
sewerage standing charge 7.00

From what people in the area have said who have changed to a water meter,
we're better off sticking with the fixed fee because of the amount of water we use.
