I can see a bean-like pea becoming mushy when cooked,
but still be quite thick.  It would be like the
refried-beans we have in the Mexican food section of
the supermarket.  If mushy peas are like that, then I
can understand what is being referred to.

Similar texture to re-fried beans.

I haven't eaten mushy peas since I was a child, when I used to enjoy them with fish & chips. I suspect I wouldn't like them now. I've never had mint sauce with them, and don't recall it being offered in fish & chip shops in Cheshire. Sue
