Dear Friends in Oz,
Have you heard about the "do not call register"?

On talkback this morning they were saying that almost a million Australians have already registered their phone numbers and that's without much advertising yet! I'm going to do mine now - done.

Wonder if it'll be similiar to or different from ours. Because ours hasn't cut the pester calls all that much. Granted, we (DH and I) never had all that many to begin with but...

If you've *ever* dealt with a firm... they're excluded and can keep calling you. For years. Wanting more business and more chance to call. Charities -- broadly understood, from Fraternal Ordder of Police to Planned Parenthood -- are excluded. And they always want money. Even if they start with "how are you today?", that's not what they're interested in. Political calls are excluded; can drive you nuts around election times, and that's even if you don't get any robo-calls, made *specifically* to annoy you, at odd hours of the night. The rest of the year they want money.

And then there's the odd scam artist wanting to know your social security or checking account number. They, of course, couldn't care less about do not call injunctions... :)
