A new keyboard on which the "delete everything" key is farther from the letter keys would help.

Lots of luck finding one -- I have yet to obtain a halfway-decent keyboard.

If you can find a keyboard with an entirely separate numpad, you can disable or re-purpose any keys on the main board that are duplicated on the numpad. If your software doesn't allow you to redefine a key, you can lift the cap and put a shim under it.
