Having moved this thread to lace-chat, in the UK, under distance selling
regulations, if you buy something by mail order and return it for refund
because there's something wrong with it (not only faulty or misdescribed,
but wrong colour or anything else that isn't correct), the seller has to
refund the cost of the item, the postage they charged you, and any cost you
incurred in sending it back. The law says that you should not be out of
pocket for something that isn't your fault. It isn't legal for ebay sellers
to say that they will refund the cost of the item, but not the postage and
packing.
Even though this is a legal requirement, many companies, let alone
individuals, are unaware of it or try to tell you it isn't so and keep
stalling in the hope that you'll give up. Most people do give up because it
can end up costing you more in phone calls, letters, etc in trying to get
what you're legally entitled to than you'll finally get back if you win the
argument.
Unfortunately it only applies to items bought within the UK.
