Hello Sue
It can be worked and it's not a mistake on the pattern.
Read the instructions for working Cootamundra Wattle on page 28.
You will need to leave a loop of gimp and work around it in a similar
way.
It was from this book that I learned this technique.

Dear All, has anyone tried to make the Red Flowering Gum Bookmark from
Point Ground Patterns from Australia by Elwyn Kenn ? I have just
started
it and upon reaching the point where they say put in the first gimp
(which I think is marked in the wrong place as it is not at the highest
point) it appears to be unworkable because of the flow of the gimp
around the flowers, the only way I can get a gimp around is to cheat
and
use three separate gimps which is not what is marked on the pattern. I
have had a couple of lace making friends (one of whom is a tutor) look
at it and they agree with me about the gimp markings being all wrong. I
would be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem with
it.
