We've never had a cat who woke us up -- on purpose, that is. There was a cat fight through a plate-glass window one night. (Other nights, too, but now that we know what the pawing noise is, it doesn't wake us.)

We fed our second cat in the mornings in the hope of teaching him to help us wake up. Instead, when it was almost time to get up, he'd bridge himself between us to be sure he noticed when we moved, then just lie there all limp and warm and relaxed. This didn't exactly make us get up sooner.
