A word of advice for using the blocks - if you have (as part of your 9 piece block pillow) a couple of half blocks. As a general rule do not use these half blocks to work on. They are best kept to use as top and bottom spacers to help you keep your lace at a comfortable place to work. The only time I would see you needing to use a half block would be to make sure that a corner would arrive in the centre of a whole block so that you can make the turn.

For use of the roller - it was mentioned before about having the pattern as a loop larger than the roller so that as you work round and round making a long length you don't keep using the same holes and thereby damaging the roll.
