Is the bungalow insured by the seller or by you? That would have an influence on what you do.

Last time we moved, we were advised by our solicitor to not only keep the insurance running on the house we were selling until the sale was competed, but also on the one we were buying just in case the seller didn't have any and something happened to it.

We also keep the insurance running on my FIL's bungalow until completion. It was empty through the winter from November, when he died, to February until the sale completed. The insurance company stipulated that the water, gas and electricity should be turned off, and the property checked fortnightly. Because we only live four properties away, and it was winter, we didn't turn off the services because we wanted the central heating running to avoid problems like freezing pipes, and we checked it daily.
