I had a friend who worked in a computer support centre. If the advice she
had given so far hadn't sorted out the problem, she used to tell the caller
to try giving the CPU, monitor or whatever a hard thump. She said that
usually sorted out the problem, but she wasn't allowed to suggest that as a
first solution because the support centre made their money out of the cost
of the call, so the longer they could keep someone on the line the more
money they made.
