For UK residents info, butter in the United States comes in 4 oz sticks, 
with the label marked in 1 tablespoon increments. Each tablespoon is 1/2 oz. 
1 stick is 4 oz and is equal to 1/2 cup. SO 1 cup = 8 oz.

It makes it really easy to use the cup and  spoon measurements for butter, 
which always seemed such a strange concept until I moved here
