Hi Sue On the status bar at the very top near to the date/time.
It varies a bit depending on the version of MacOS you have. With 10.3 on the desktop it's a Union flag (or Stars & Stripes if you'r set to US preferences) With 10.6 which I have on the MacBook it's a b&w box with containing an asterisk and a couple of dots. Click and hold for the drop-down menu and select 'show character viewer' You then get more characters than you will ever need. Just highlight he one you want and then 'insert' and it will g into your document at the curser position.
