I've never heard the term "hot flashes" used in England. I can assure you that English people get "hot flushes" which can be of the extreme heat & totally drenching variety! It's a matter of different countries using different vocabulary for the same thing.

I can tell you that here in Australia, the word "flash" is never used. They are only referred to as "hot flushes" - except perhaps by younger folk who've seen a few American movies
