Just looked up web definitions of 'flash' and 'flush'.

Flush:
blush; turn red

Flash:
a sudden intense burst of radiant energy

Hot flush:
A sudden, but brief, sensation of heat over the entire body; a common symptom of the menopause A sudden rush of heat to the face, neck, sometimes chest and back. It can be associated with hormonal therapy for prostate cancer.

hot flash:
Sudden brief sensation of heat (associated with menopause and some mental disorders) Hot flashes (also known as hot flushes, or night sweats if they happen at night) are a symptom of the changing hormone levels that are considered to be characteristic of menopause.

Don't think any of us get a sudden intense burst of radiant energy - quite the opposite in fact.
For me, at least, they're not brief.
Don't think any of us ladies are likely to suffer from prostate cancer.
Possible that we could be suffering from some mental disorder though.:-D I know many think we're mad spending hours making lace when, to them, the same thing can be bought ready-made very cheaply and without the effort.
