Thank you, Alex, Jacquie, and Jane, for your sharing. The thrill, is that my naive question became a wonderful sharing of all sorts of various techniques employed, and perspectives. I feel that not only the novice to bobbin lace, but perhaps even someone well versed, perhaps picked up a technique or idea that may smooth their path to fulfilling lacemaking. I don't think it has made me fear breaking threads, but rather much enjoyed what those-well-versed have discovered from their years of experience, which may save another much time in trial and error, themselves. Thank you all three, and all others I may have forgotten to name here. Also to Francis, for the leather kidney tip. (That sounds odd! LOL) Just wonderful!
