Yes, unfortunately it's just become a profitfest for businesses. Soon the supermarkets here will be selling mince pies with holly decoration on the packet and a use-by date within two weeks of purchase.

I refuse to have anything to do with the commercialisation. In our family we buy and give presents at any time of the year when we feel we want to - not at Christmas - but do have a traditional Christmas lunch. Other than that they make no profit from us for events at that time of year which are supposed to be spiritual, not the opportunity to make a fast buck.

Besides which, as I get older, time seems to go faster and faster. I object to businesses trying to make it go even faster by dragging dates forward by 6 months. Back-to-school uniform clothes for children were in the shops long before they even stopped school for the long summer holiday.
