Just caught the end bit of the 1,000 ship pageant on the Thames. The Queen and the rest of her party on the royal barge must have been bored stiff by the end of the hours it took for them all to pass her, but I do admire her stamina to still be smiling and waving by the end of it.

Turned the TV to another channel to find people complaining about the number of Union Flags (Union Jack) being flown upside down, particularly where the Olympic flame is being paraded. It really does amaze me that some don't know that our own flag has a right and wrong way up - the right way with the broad white stripe uppermost on the side of the flag pole, or on the left if there is no pole. During the Silver Jubilee I did point out to a shopkeeper that his flag was upside down, and his response was "Does anyone really care?" I do - flown upside down it's a distress signal, although in the current economic climate perhaps we are in distress.
