Just about now, BBC2 is broadcasting a documentary recreating the
Netherfield ball from Jane Austin's "Pride and Prejudice". I won't be
watching all of it, but will watch part of it partly to see if there is any
lace. Jane Austin lived at Chawton House in Hampshire for eight years and
that's where the recreation is taking place.
It's the 200th anniversary of the publication of "Pride and Prejudice" so
there have been various mentions of it, with the Jane Austin museum putting
in quite an effort. Earlier in the year one of the curators of the museum
was interviewed on our local radio. She said visitors were very interested
and one lady (I won't say from which country) asked "Will the author be
signing copies of "Pride and Prejudice?"" The curator said she just replied
"Not today."
