Sue - I had a look on the 1901 census Elizabeth Hinks age 75 is shown living with her husband (65) who was a Hurdle maker. No mention of lacemaking.

In 1891 she is age 65, living with her husband (55) who was a Rough Carpenter - still no lacemaking.

In 1881 she is 54 (he is 52) and a carpenter - no lacemaking.

Going back to 1871 the entry is getting more interesting. She (44) is still with her husband William (42) but they have living with them son Ambrose Golder (25), son George Hinks (16), daughter Sarah Ann Hinks (19) and father Jonathan Hinks (79). Various occupations Carpenter, Agricultural Labourer, Servant and Hurdlemaker, no lacemaking. So.... was the son Ambrose from an earlier marriage or is 'Golder' Elizabeth's maiden name (yes it was, see further down)

In 1861Elizabeth (35) and William (32) are living with her in-laws, Jonathan Hinks (69) and Lucy (67). They have Sarah A (10), Eliza (8) and George (6) shown as daughters and sons (but actually they are grand children in relation to Jonathan who is Head of household). Ambrose H. Golder (15) is shown as Lodger. Still no mention of lacemaking.

Going back another 10 years to 1851 shows William (22) and Elizabeth (24) living on their own (he is Hurdlemaker and she is Laundress). She is probably pregnant with Sarah A. Ambrose (4) is living with his grandparents.

No signs of any lacemakers in the Hinks/Golder family, but as it wasn't the main money-making occupation for Elizabeth (Laundress would have been much more important and Ambrose's grandmother - who is Elizabeth's mother - was also a Laundress). However, on the same page as Ambrose there was a lady called Dinah Hawkins, (20), born at Fritwell, Oxfordshire (same place as Elizabeth) is shown as Lacemaker, and 2 or 3 others at Stoke Lyne, Oxfordshire are also shown as lacemakers.

In 1841 Elizabeth (Golder) (16) was a Female Servant and living away from home.

Hope this is of interest.
