Hello Fellow Spiders,

So many of you kindly wrote to me when I told you my husband John had just
been diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer, and I would like to thank you all
for your sympathy, good wishes and prayers - it was the prayers, I am sure,
which kept him alive that first awful weekend. Since then, it has been a
roller coaster ride - after the four weeks in the Oncology ward in Ipswich
hospital, he was home for about ten days, then hospitalised in Colchester for
a week, where angina was diagnosed, possibly as a result of the chemo. He
also had yet another trip to Colchester Hospital, as he had trouble breathing
- however, for the angina a GNT spray was prescribed, and for the
breathlessness, an inhaler, so we are now better equipped than most
pharmacies!

However, we saw the Oncology Consultant in Ipswich on Friday last, and there
was good news! John has had four lots of chemo now, and the Consultant said
that any more would quite probably do more harm than good, but they are so
pleased with the way he, and the tumours, have responded, so they are going to
discontinue the chemo for a while. John is going to have a 'face cage' for
radiotherapy measured up tomorrow, and the radiotherapy will start as soon as
the mask is constructed - they want to blast the tumour in the chest, and also
the brain. Apparently, there are very few side-effects of radiotherapy -
apart from the severe hair loss - so that is also a comfort. (Maybe I ought
to start knitting a selection of vivid and gaudy bobble-hats!)

The medics are still definite that this is not a cure, and they are still
telling us to get our affairs in order, and have a good Christmas. (Although
they haven't told me in so many words, they have told the children that they
think it will be John's last Christmas, but - who knows - months do turn into
years ...) But - it does mean that John will have a few more months with us,
which to us all is a blessing indeed.

So - thanks once again to you all for the good wishes and prayers - and please
keep the prayers coming, as we both need them!

Thanks to you all,

Carol - in Suffolk UK
